“There was a huge void that was no filled,” said Tom Oglesby, president of Aquinas Communications. Aquinas Communications Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) and the management company for KCRD-LP. The radio station is a new-work affiliate for Relevant Radio, EWTN Radio, the Catholic Music Playlist and Lighthouse Catholic Media. The goal is spreading the message of Jesus Christ.
“We’re about people, families, and children,” Oglesby said. “We’re about marriage, children, families and the teachings of faith.” Another part of the radio station’s mission is to promote vocations such as priesthood and sisterhood and lifestyles such as Consecrated Virgins. The studio is set up in an office inside Oglesby’s home and the transmitter is at the Visitation Complex, located at University Avenue and Alta Vista Street. “We’re really becoming a focus point, people can look to us,” Oglesby said. KCRD broadcasts Church of the Resurrection Mass at 9a.m. on Sundays. Oglesby said there is an effort to add more local programming in the fourth quarter. Oglesby said since it began there has been great interest in it. He said the community has responded well to the station and its programming. “It’s been just fantastic,” Oglesby said. Oglesby said he has been pleasantly surprised and overwhelmed by the prayers and financial support. He said there has been an outpouring of support, including gift of underwriting. He added, while nonprofit organizations and churches have shown their support, support from individual members also are key to the station’s success. “Our No. 1 need is the prayerful support of our listeners,” he said.
